Loving Daughter, Sister, and Aunt

WATERBURY – Ms. Edith “Dith” Da Madalena Martins Silva of Sao Nicolau, Cabo Verde passed away surrounded by her loved ones at Saint Mary’s Hospital on June 3, 2020.

Ms. Silva was born in São Nicolau, Cabo Verde in 1945 to the late Pedro Francisco Silva and Maria Do Rosario Martins. She also resided in the island SãoVicente for over 40 years. She served as a dedicated and passionate Elementary School teacher. She enjoyed spending time with her family and going on mild adventures with her younger sister Maria. She was known for her generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, sharing of laughter, and telling stories. Ms. Silva never shied away from her love of beauty. It was rare for her leave the house without her lipstick, hair styled, and chic clothes. Her leisure activities consisted of studying the French language, walking the sand beach of Baía Das Gatas, baking treats “Sucrinha,” dancing, going out in the community, and more.

Left to cherish her memory and honor her love and legacy, is her sister, Maria Auxiliadora Martins Gomes, her brother, Pedro Francisco Borja Silva and several nieces and nephews. Edith now joins her mother Maria Do Rosário Martins Silva, her father, Pedro Francisco Silva, and her sister Celina Rosa Martins Silva Talho.
