“A woman of great faith”
WATERBURY - Elaine E. (Lipnicki) Lavorgna, age 89, of Waterbury CT, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2020, surrounded by loved ones. She was the widow of Dante (Danny) Lavorgna.
Elaine was born February 6th 1931 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Nicholas Lipnicki and Frances (Thomasunis) Lipnicki. Elaine was a longtime parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Church. Her faith was very important to her and she was an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, a member of the VFW Auxiliary as well as a member of the Legion of Mary. The most important thing to Elaine in life, was her family. Elaine and her husband Danny were avid golfers, fans of the NY Yankees and the UConn Huskies girl’s basketball team. They enjoyed cooking, traveling and baking together, listening to music and dancing. Elaine was always so proud of her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed embroidery and needle work. Elaine had an unparallel spirit of generosity and she was always an optimist when faced with difficulties. Her faith and love of God was enormous and she will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her love and memory, is her daughter, Linda and her granddaughter, Ana. Elaine is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters; Adele Purdy (Ed), Margaret Podzunas (Albie), Alberta Grochowski (Stanley) and Mildred Laflamme (Sonny).

Elaine’s family would like to acknowledge and offer their personal appreciation and thanks to all of the staff at Vitas Hospice Heath Care and the personal and professional healthcare workers who attended to Elaine at the end of her life. A very special thanks to Lisa Accousti.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lavorgna will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday July 27, 2020 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St. Waterbury. All those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. To honor Elaine’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, 650 Willard Ave Newington CT 06111. Memories endure only if you share them, so you are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort, or a personal memory with the Lavorgna family on Elaine’s tribute page at

Today is the first time I heard about Elaine’s passing. It saddens me to hear this news. She was a sweet lady and I always loved talking with her. My heartfelt sympathies go out to her family. Rest peacefully Elaine.

This is Michael, Norene's son, in Missouri. I haven't talked to Mom in a couple months and learned of Elaine's passing tonight by happenstance. I'm saddened by her passing, and will miss the conversations we had by phone during the last few years. She brought joy to my life and was full of encouragement, humor, and lifted my spirit, and she seemed to enjoy talking to me as well. She spoke with my mom frequently, and Mom must have been devastated by the news, though she knew she was having ongoing health problems. I can't imagine Mom not hearing Elaine's voice on the phone again, but I believe Elaine's in a better place with all the angels of Heaven and in the Presence of God.

To Mrs. Lavorgna’s daughter Linda.
Linda I’m sorry for your loss. Knowing you are about Claire’s age, you had a a mom 13 years younger than our Mom
I’ve attempted to reach you thru FB but wasn’t successful. I forwarded your mom’s obituary to my younger sister Ellie. Losing a patent is difficult. I read that your mom was a very spiritual woman. I’m sure she’s enjoying the beauty of the afterlife.

Maybe not appropriate thru this means but I wanted to let you know that our dear sister Claire died unexpectedly on May 4th. She was having a very bad asthma attack and went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance. They were unsuccessful in reviving her.
It’s like she just disappeared. All 8 of us are well and in good health.
If you choose to be in touch.
