WATERBURY - Mrs. Eleanor E. (Hoethke) Gillette age 96 of Meridian Manor, formerly of Glenrock Road, Waterbury passed away peacefully at Meridian Manor on 7/2/2020. She was the widow of William F. Gillette, Sr.

Mrs. Gillette was born on July 3, 1923 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Harry F. and Ella (Lyttle) Hoethke. She was a 1941 graduate of Wilby High School and was employed at Scovill Mfg. and was Treasurer of her husband’s business, Accurate Chrome Engineering. She was proud of her volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital and was a member of the YWCA swim league. She enjoyed summers at Bayview Beach in Milford. Eleanor was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and dedicated each and every day to her family. Eleanor was always able to see the joy in life even during or through tough times and enjoyed each and every day to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Eleanor leaves to cherish her memory, her grandson, William F. Gillette III, his wife, Cora, and her great grandchildren, Mary E. Gillette and William F. Gillette IV. In addition, she is survived by her daughter in law, Carol Gillette, her grandson, Matthew Gillette, several nieces and nephews (notably Margaret Chadwick, John Gillette, and Katherine Underwood). Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, William F. Gillette, Jr., her sister, Dorothy Pritchard, and brothers; Harry Hoethke and John Hoethke. Eleanor’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Meridian Manor for the excellent care and love they shared with her during her stay there.

A private graveside service will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury when Eleanor will be laid to rest with her husband in the Queen of Angels Mausoleum . There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date at the convenience of the family. Casey’s Eastside Memorial has been honored to care for Eleanor and her family during this difficult time. We are so sorry to hear of our dear friend Eleanor's passing. She was a truly wonderful , caring and loving person that made the lives of those who met and knew her all the better. She always had a kind smile on her face and warm words to share. It was indeed a blessing and an honor to have been able to celebrate all the holidays with her and see how much she truly loved her family. We love you Eleanor and we will miss you greatly, but we look forward to knowing we will see you again : )

Love you very much
Ann and Jean

My sincere condolences to Carol and family. Aunt Eleanor was a sweet person with a warm smile.
I’ll always treasure Christmas visits with their beautiful tree with bubbling lights on it. She was always kind and caring.

To the entire Gillette family,
My thoughts are with you. My family lived next to Eleanor and Bill for almost 60 years on Glenrock. She always had a treat for us when she was outside doing her gardening. Even as Bill was slowing down, he would come outside and sit in the yard and "supervise"! May you have comfort in knowing she was a good friend and neighbor.
