“Enjoyed playing Basketball and Baseball”

WOLCOTT – Frederick R. Malesky, age 87, of Wolcott passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Daunis) Malesky.

Fred was born December 24th 1932 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Frank and Olive (Clauss) Malesky. Frederick was a graduate of Milford High School Class of 1952 where he played baseball and basketball and continued to play baseball into his later years. He continued his studies at UConn and graduated with a bachelors degree in 1954 before joining the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country, during the Korean War conflict. After being honorably discharged, Fred began working for General Electric in Schenectady, NY for almost ten years then returned to CT to work for Uniroyal for 36 years retiring as a payroll manager. While working at Uniroyal, Fred met his future wife, Elizabeth and they married in 1973 and settled in Southbury. They enjoyed vacationing at their favorite summer getaway in Cape Cod and enjoyed skiing in the winters in Vermont and Massachusetts. Fred enjoyed deep sea fishing and skiing and was a avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers (before they moved from NY) as well as the UCONN Women’s basketball team. After retirement, Betty and Fred moved to Cape Cod and were active in the Church of Our Lady of the Cape Parish where they enjoyed meeting a new group of wonderful friends and neighbors and more recently he was a parishioner of Mary Mother of the Church and a long-time member of the American Legion

Left to honor and cherish Fred’s love and legacy, besides his wife of 47 years, Betty are his many loving nieces and nephews especially, Robert Malesky and his wife, Michelle of West Virginia. Fred always looked forward to visits from the family especially when they visited him on the Cape. In addition, he is also survived by his sister in law, Theresa Zenni of Southbury. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Malesky and his wife, Irene.

The Malesky family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff and doctors at Vitas Hospice and Athena Health Care for all the loving and comforting support they provided to Fred and his family during his illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Malesky will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, St Leo the Great Church Waterbury. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Fred was a gem among men. I met him in 2000 and last saw him in 2012. But between 2000 and 2012 we shared so many laughs. I think he had a permanent smile on his face. I am so grateful to have known him. He always put a smile on my face. I will always remember him. Amy Koff MD
