WATERBURY - Hilda Theresa Scott, of Waterbury, Connecticut age 77 of Waterbury passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday August 23, 2020 with her devoted family by her side.

Hilda Theresa Scott, of Waterbury, Connecticut was born to the late John Edward and Alice Jordan Rountree on March 12, 1943 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Hilda was the last living child of Mr. and Mrs. Rountree who raised 13 children in total: Shirley Hurdle, Beulah Bryant, Thelma Rountree, Irene Steward, Luella Thomas, Georgia Hinton, Isaac Lee Rountree, Cleveland Rountree, James Rountree, Elmer Lee Rountree, Willie Rountree, John Archie Rountree, and Curtis Rountree. Known for her quick wit and beautiful singing voice, Ms. Hilda was a staple of the neighborhood surrounding Berkley Avenue where she was a resident for more than 40 years. In her lifetime, Hilda dedicated herself to the children in her neighborhood and those who attended Berkley Heights Day Care where she was an employee. Hilda loved to share her passion for music and, if the opportunity presented itself, she would sing for those around her. Hilda and her five sisters even once recorded an album together under the group name The Rountree Sisters.

Hilda was the matriarch of her family and leaves behind six children: Bradley Rountree and his wife Letisha, Willie Earl Scott and his wife Theda, Sidney Scott, Chykhana Kiki Jabraudae, Prentiss Scott and his wife Rebecca, Taqwetta Wares and her husband Kaliq; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Those who knew and loved her will remember the resolve of her faith, her wet kisses, and most unforgettably— her beaming smile.
