Obituary

THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING ADN CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF JOHN CREAVEN

“Known as the Colonel of Softball”

OAKVILLE – John P. Creaven, age 79 of Oakville, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 20th 2020, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the beloved husband of Antonia (Romero) Creaven.

John was born December 9th 1940 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late John and Martha (Morris) Creaven. John was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War Era and was stationed in Spain where he met the love of his life Antonia. John spent many years working for Phillips Corporation retiring as a Quality Supervisor Inspector. John was an avid sports fan with softball being his favorite. If you played softball in the Naugatuck Valley in the 80’s you knew “Colonel Creaven”. There was nothing more important to John than his family. He was always happiest while spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memories and honor his love and legacy, besides his beloved wife, Antonia of 57 years, he leaves his three sons. John Creaven Jr. of Oakville, Glenn Creaven and his wife, Michelle of Leominster, MA and David Creaven and his wife, Jean of Waterbury. He and Antonia were blessed with 5 beautiful granddaughters who were the light of their lives; Victoria, Madison, Kaylah, Sydney, and Caitlyn and his grandson ,Silas. He was predeceased by his brother, James Creaven.

Funeral services for Mr. Creaven will be held on Friday, July 24th, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St Waterbury to Mount Olivet Cemetery In Watertown for a graveside service with full military honors. Relatives and friends may visit with John’s family on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m until the procession leaves at 10:30 a.m. To honor John’s memory and in lieu of flowers contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org would be greatly appreciated by the Creaven family. Memories endure only if you share them so you are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort or a personal memory with the Creaven family on John’s tribute page at www.eastsidememorial.com.
