Obituary

THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF LURDES ALVES

Devoted to her family and her faith

WATERBURY - Lurdes M. Alves, age 96 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 with her family by her side at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital. She was the widow of Manuel Alves.

Mrs. Alves was born in Madeira, Portugal on June 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Rosa) DeJesus. She worked for many years at Waterbury Tag and retired in 1962 to raise her family. Lurdes loved to travel especially to her homeland Portugal and also loved crocheting, and cooking. What was most important to Lurdes was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. It is said with great pride by her loving family that Lurdes exemplified a “life well lived”. She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to cherish her memory and honor her legacy are her children, son, Carlos Alves and his wife, Otilio of Waterbury, her daughters, Rosemarie Hamilton of Norwalk and Maria Fitzpatrick and her partner, Don Sumple of Torrington, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Amy Alves. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the caregivers at the Lutheran Home in Southbury where Lurdes spent 5 wonderful years.

Maria, I was deeply saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a beautiful, kind, lady with an unforgettable smile. I'm so glad I got the chance to meet her in our Big Y years. May the Good Lord Bless her Soul and bring comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
