Obituary

THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL GIBLIN

BORN AND RAISED IN COUNTY GALWAY, IRELAND

WATERBURY – Michael Francis Giblin, age 85 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2020 at Yale New Haven Smilow Cancer Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a courageous and valiant battle with multiple myeloma. He was the husband of Anne (Smollen) Giblin.

Michael was born September 20th 1934 in Newbridge, County Galway, Ireland, the son of the late Patrick and Anne (Lohan) Giblin. He was raised and educated in Ireland and emigrated to the United States in 1968, settling in Waterbury, where he has lived for the past 50 + years. Michael spent 26 ½ years working as a lineman for the former Connecticut Light and Power Company until his retirement. Michael was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and was a member and former Treasurer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching soccer, golf, the NY Giants and the New York Mets. In his younger years in Ireland, he enjoyed hurling and Gaelic football. Following his retirement, Michael liked to travel with his wife, Anne, and also enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods Casino to play poker. He was a long time communicant and active member of Sacred Heart Church in Waterbury. There was nothing more important to Michael than his family. He was happiest spending time together with them and he especially enjoyed visits with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory and honor Michael’s love and legacy are his wife of 49 ½ years Anne Margaret Giblin, his children, Patrick Giblin of Manhattan, NY. Elizabeth Krueger and her husband, John of Bedford, NH and his daughter Mary Giblin of Bloomfield. Michael and Anne were blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren; Grace, Ava and Michael Krueger. In addition, he also leaves his brother, Thomas Giblin of Newbridge, Co. Galway, Ireland and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. Michael was pre-deceased by his sister, Mary Kelly of Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, Ireland.

The Giblin Family wish to thank the wonderful physicians and nursing staff at Yale's Smilow Cancer Hospital specifically Dr. Terri Parker and Tara Anderson, P.A., the staff at Caleb Hitchcock Health Center, St. Francis Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, Dr. Edmund Caporaso, Dr. Paul Beauvais, Dr. Munir Hamzi and Dr. Abdel Aziz Richi and all those that contributed to Michael's care.

Dear Elizabeth and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I just learned today, and regret being unable to pay my respects at the services. He was always welcoming and kind to me. May he Rest In Peace and may God bless you and your family.

Elizabeth and Family,
I am very sorry for your loss, your dad was always so nice.
I remember when he brought us sled riding at Fulton Park and then got us hot chocolate afterwards, when he brought us to Hamilton Park to go to the playground, and all the times I was invited for dinner at your house.
I have many nice memories of your family from when we were growing up.
I will be thinking of all of you during this difficult time.
