Loving Grandmother to 46

WATERBURY - Rita (Gagnon) Church age 96 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital.

Rita was born on May 21, 1923 in Fall River MA the daughter of the late Emile and Annie (Comiskey) Gagnon. She was educated in local schools and was a devoted homemaker. What meant most to Rita was her family, especially her grandchildren to whom she was always caring for in many special ways. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and was a wonderful baker but the most important job was that of grandmother to her 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. It came naturally to her to be their caregiver, friend and confidant. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. It is said with great pride by her loving family that Rita exemplified a “life well lived”.

Left to remember, cherish and honor Rita’s love and legacy are her children; sons, Robert and his wife
Maureen of Fredericksburg VA, Thomas and his wife Linda of Spotsylvania VA and Donald of
Naugatuck, her daughters; Ann Marie Sweeney and her husband, Robert of Waterbury and Patricia Montgomery and her husband, Robert of Wolcott, daughter-in-law, Barbara Church of Huntersville NC, her 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by her sons, William and Daniel
and siblings; Edward, Carlton, Francis, Thomas and Mary Paul.

Funeral services for Mrs. Church will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury at 9:30 a.m. Those planning to attend the church service are kindly asked to meet directly at the church.
